Nurburgring Insurance

When discussing insurance there are three main factors we’re interested in when considering accidents on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

First party – you.
Second party – the insurance company.
Third party – other people.

And two main scenarios – touristenfahrten (public) driving, and nürburgring track days.A crashed BMW on the Nurburgring

Touristenfahrten (public) driving.
The Nürburgring Nordschleife is classed as a public road, and like any other public road you must have third party insurance as a minimum to drive on the Nordschleife during these sessions. Much has been written about exclusions in insurance policies – suffice to say you should check your own policy documents very carefully for exclusions. If there is an accident, and there are other people involved, insurance companies will work as normal to figure out who will pay. If that person happens to be you, you really ought to make sure you are properly insured.

Nürburgring track days.
During a private track day, the Nordschleife IS NOT considered a public road, and is considered a prepared course, or track. For most of us, normal road insurance policies DO NOT cover us for Nürburgring trackdays. Most, but not all*, private track days on the Nürburgring have no insurance requirement at all. It is a condition of entry on DN Events track days that participants cannot claim from each other – each person is only liable for their own (first party) costs if an accident occurs.
This massively changes the risk compared to a public day.

Whilst third party liability insurance is not required DN events, and it is prohibited to make a claim against another participant on a DN Events Nürburgring trackday, we appreciate some of you may still have concerns over the potential for damage to your own car. Below is a list of some (but not all) companies that offer specialist insurance products for first party risk only (trackday insurance).

* Some German or other European track day organisers DO require third party insurance, which is normal practice in some countries. If you are in any doubt, please contact the actual organiser directly for confirmation. MORIS Trackday insurance

“We are the leading provider for Track Day Insurance for Cars. Our online services are ahead of the game and we are able to provide cover for values up to £200,000. Instant cover also available for any car up to £60,000.”

Please note. These insurances are not suitable for public, or Touristenfahrten public days. These  insurances are not likely to provide any third (3rd) party cover, a legal requirement on public days. It is unlikely that normal road policies will cover a private Nürburgring trackday such as DN Events Nürburgring trackday. Unless you take out a policy from a specialist insurer – you may have no insurance on this event. Motor vehicle insurance on the Nürburgring on this event IS NOT required by any law.

If you represent a specialist insurer offering products suitable for Nürburgring trackday insurance customers across the UK, Europe and beyond, and you want to be included on this page – please get in touch.
